Bayberry offers ten places at present providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere where residents can learn to form
healthy attachments in working towards the shared goal of recovery. This helps to break the sense of isolation inherent
to addiction and some forms of mental health problems.
Comprehensive
Assessment and Treatment Planning
Following admission or transfer from detox, each resident undergoes a thorough assessment. This includes an assessment of
the resident’s physical, psychiatric, psychological, social, spiritual, and family needs in order to determine the most
appropriate levels of care, and to ensure that the resident is ready to participate actively in the Bayberry residential programme.
Subsequent to the assessment phase, the resident and the care team
discuss the outcomes of the assessment and set goals for an idividualised care plan. The care plan integrates evidence-based treatment methods and psychotherapy with medication should it be indicated (for instance in mood disorders).
Residents who have successfully completed eight weeks of residential treatment
take part in our very effective mirror image programme. Mirror Image residents spend up to three mornings per week in another addiction
treatment facility close to Bayberry, where they work with newly admitted alcoholics and addicts.
Length of stay at the Bayberry Clinic
A resident’s length
of stay will be determined by individual treatment requirements and their progress in the Therapeutic Community setting. We offer a 6-week primary care programme and an extended care secondary programme
of a further 6-8 weeks if necessary. This is often required when detoxification is lengthy. Recent research indicates the
"gold standard" for residential stay that predicts the best long term outcomes is a minimum of 12 weeks.
Ideally bedrooms are initially shared (same sex). This is to enable the community to support one another
and overcome feelings of isolation, hopelessness and loneliness. Some residents may struggle with self-destructive
feelings and thus there is also an important safety aspect to being in close proximity to others who are supportive and
caring.
