Our treatment
philosophy utilises the Therapeutic Community (TC) approach to addictions and mental health problems which views the problem
as a disorder of the whole person, which affects the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the individual and their
family.
The Bayberry Recovery
Centre provides an integrated continuum of care for addictions, mental health problems and/or dual diagnosis such as: - addiction with a coexisting depression/anxiety;
- compulsive behaviours;
- post
traumatic stress
- unresolved grief;
- personality problems;
- behavioural problems;
- accompanying emotional and physical problems.
Living within a TC framework is of itself
a force for personal change.
In addition the recovery program adds to the TC framework in
other comprehensive and individualised ways.
Residents and their families participate in psycho-educational
and psychotherapeutic groups designed to help them explore addiction, mental health problems and dual disorders as well
as the impact these can have on the family. Against the TC living principles residents also engage with the
spiritual 12 Step program of self change, mindfullness and acceptance therapy, and attend mutual aid meetings in
the community to develope a recovery support structure. Family members are encouraged to attend family support
meetings. Group therapy is also a daily activity and a powerful cornerstones of change at Bayberry.
Living in the Bayberry TC, residents are housed in a residential,
surrogate family setting. This setting heals the isolation, loneliness and behavioural problems that the chemically dependent
person develops over the course of their addiction and that often plagues individuals with mental health disorders. Residents
are responsible for housekeeping and meal preparation per guidance from a nutritionist.
