Bayberry Clinic Recovery Centre

Internet addiction

Internet addiction refers to the problematic use of the Internet, including the various aspects of its technology, such as electronic mail (e-mail) and the World Wide Web (and very often our Blackberry or iphone).

Internet addiction has been formally recognised as a disorder by the American Psychological Association.
Internet addiction resembles other "process" addictions, in which a person is addicted to an activity or behaviour rather than a substance. The amount of time spent on e-media by itself is not as important a factor as the ways in which Internet use is interfering with daily functioning.

Use of the Internet may interfere with social life, family life, or work-related tasks.
There may also be a decreased investment in social relationships and activities. A person may lie about how much time was spent online or deny that they have a problem. They may be irritable when offline, or angry toward anyone who questions their time on the Internet.

The Bayberry clinical team has both the professional and personal experience in the treatment of this very often progressive disease.
