As part of Bayberry's holistic approach, families are included in the programme,
indeed they are positively encouraged to take part, as addiction does not affect just the addict, it also affects the family,
and Bayberry helps heal them too. My son of 17 was included in the programme, alongside my wife, and this has led to improvements
in our home life, because he now understands why his father behaved in the way that he did, and his father is now trying
to remedy the situation. Living in a quasi-family unit at Bayberry helped in my recovery at home, as my previous self-centered
behavior could be challenged by my peers.
Bayberry was a very safe place to be, for me as a recovering addict,
as it allowed me to try out strategies that I would be employing in the outside world in an atmosphere of safety. It
has enabled me to fit into 12 Step Programmes here at home seamlessly, and because of the treatment at Bayberry, I can go
to these meetings with a sense of purpose that I lacked in former treatment facilities. The 12 Step Programme at Bayberry
is outstanding in it’s coverage of the issues involved in the remaking of my life on a spiritual basis, and I am using
what I learnt at Bayberry on a regular basis.
After leaving Bayberry, I have attended aftercare on a regular basis,
because this gives me a link to my spiritual home, and what is more, I want to come back, even though it is a long journey
for me. My family too are included in the aftercare, and school permitting, they accompany me to the Tuesday meetings for
aftercare.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Bayberry
to anyone seeking a new way of life from their addictive behavior."
