Gambling addiction is generally described as a process addiction since it often does not involve
the abuse of substances like alcohol or drugs (although they sometimes go hand in hand).
Compulsive gambling is an illness that
seriously affects not only the gambler. It can affect the gambler’s family, circle of friends and can lead to the same
losses caused by other addictions.
It is a chronic condition and may be progressive. Very often an addiction
to gambling is hard to detect since it is generally a legal activity. It is also exacerbated by the recent explosion of gambling opportunities on the internet.
In most cases
compulsive gambling leads to unmanageable debt, bankruptcy, broken relationships, and sometimes even suicide.
The Bayberry clinical team has both the professional and personal experience in the treatment of this very often progressive disease.
